Our History

The Campus Roots Garden Club (Lethbridge, AB) was founded in 2008 as a community garden for students and staff affiliated with the University of Lethbridge. Gardeners grew their first crops in Summer 2009.

In 2010, the University entered into an agreement in principle with the City of Lethbridge to develop the campus garden into a community garden. As a result the Club became an Association under the Alberta Societies Act and the Campus Roots Community Garden Association was born.

Committed to continuous improvement, the Board of Directors oversaw a major expansion in the summer of 2014, that increased the number of plots and upgraded the irrigation. Plans are underway to finish the irrigation upgrade, plant fruit trees, and continue the work of increasing accessibility to the garden.

The garden is open to anyone and everyone. Currently The garden has almost 50 raised-bed plots with irrigation, three community plots of fruits and herbs, compost bins, and benches for seating.
